PMG Wins Bristol Environmental Business of the Year Award
It’s official! We are the most environmental business in Bristol.
Managing Directors Patrick and Bernadette McGuinness, Workshop Manager Paul McGuiness, Operations Manager Stuart Knight and Accounts Supervisor Louise Gay all went to the Bristol Business Awards Dinner on Wednesday night.
We entered our state of the art recycling facility for the award which treats road sweeper residues and gully waste and despite stiff competition were delighted to hear our company’s name announced as the winner.
Judges were impressed by the fact that in 2015 PMG was instrumental in keeping 12,500 tons of road sweeping waste out of landfill and will be recycling and diverting from landfill a further 18,000 tons in 2016. The process separates the waste out into sand, graded aggregate and organic/plant waste and litter which is all then re-cycled enabling us to achieve ‘zero waste to landfill’.
It was a great night and we couldn’t be more proud of our achievement.
We have a brilliant team here at PMG and we’re looking forward to winning many more awards in the future.

PMG Services Fleet on the Move
We’ve opened a new 1.7 acre transport yard in St. Philips,
Bristol.
Our Albert Road depot has become a bit congested since the
installation of our waste recycling plant, so it made sense for us to separate
the waste management and transport operations of the business.
So we’ve invested in a new yard just a few minutes down the
road where all of our vehicles will now be based making everyone’s lives a lot
easier. Over the past week we’ve moved our 35 sweepers, 6 tankers and other
assorted vehicles to their new home which was the former Sita site in Cole Road.
Commented operations manager Stuart Knight: “As our recycling
business has grown the number of vehicle movements in and out of the Albert
Road facility meant that we were experiencing heavy congestion. It made sense
to invest in a second yard for our own growing fleet of vehicles to give both
operations more space and I know our own drivers are pleased for the extra
space”.

' Three's Not a Crowd ! '
Christmas has come early at PMG.
We have just taken delivery of 3 Brand new Johnston VT651's.
These new machines are all on 15 tonne chassis, one being a DAF and two on the new VOLVO. The VOLVO's are a new adventure for PMG and the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty offering was a key point in our decision to purchase from VOLVO. The DAF is a tried and tested machine within our fleet of 35 sweepers and the new additions strengthen our very busy fleet. PMG are pleased with the new machines and our compliments go to Johnston again for providing a quality product on new chassis.

Zero waste to landfill from the PMG Services’ recycling facility
Hang on to your hats, fellow sustainability fanatics – we can now proudly boast that none of the road sweeping and gully ‘wastes’ which we collect on a daily basis are going to landfill.
Yes, that’s zero waste to landfill, largely thanks to our recently passing the quality protocol (see my blog last month dated 15th April). We recycle or reuse the entire content, by separating sand, gravel and stones and sending them off to be reused for road surfacing and construction or, in the case of high-grade organic materials, compost or remediation. We also separate any litter which we send for reprocessing, much of which is used to make refuse-derived fuels. We even send the water content off to treatment works to be recycled.

Road sweepings are no longer a waste: as our Quality Protocol for the Production of Aggregates gains approval
We’re thrilled to report the Environment Agency has approved our ‘quality protocol’ for the production of aggregates from our road sweepings/gully waste recycling plant. This means all the waste materials we pick up by our own fleet and process can be reused rather than sent to landfill as we ensure they lose the criteria which class them as ‘waste’.
This is such a win-win-win situation for everyone. To name but three benefits, materials are put to good use instead of being landfilled; they’re cheaper for onward users to buy than ‘virgin’ aggregates; and it helps our clients to meet their sustainability targets.
