Our new workshop manager Zac Simmons has returned to the job he loves most – looking after municipal hire vehicles.
Zac and his team of three technicians are responsible for keeping PMG Services vehicles in tip top mechanical condition, ready to take on whatever challenge our customers give us!
From starting out with just one sweeper in 1990 The PMG fleet of vacuum tankers, gully tankers and sweepers has grown to 45 with more on the way.
Originally from Northampton, Zac has over 10 years’ experience working for some of the leading contract hire company’s including MHS, Go-Plant and Specialist Fleet Services. He started on the tools working in the workshop looking after local authority contract hire vehicles and worked his way up through the ranks to workshop manager.
He relocated to Bristol in 2014 to be with his wife Lynette and joined Mercedes van dealership City West as service manager before moving on to Sapphire Vehicle Services at Emerson Green. There he managed one of the company’s largest regional workshop operations looking after the Sainsbury’s supermarket fleet.
But Zac’s heart has always been in municipal vehicles, so when he saw the advertisement for the PMG position he jumped at the chance.
He said: “I’m delighted to back in the sector I want to be in, the municipal side of things. PMG is an growing business with lots of potential and I am really enjoying being part of the team here. My first priority is to modernise the workshop and put in systems to ensure that we continue to meet the future servicing requirements of the growing PMG fleet.”
Commented operations manager Stuart Knight: “We are delighted that Zac has chosen to join PMG for the next phase of his career. He brings with him a vast amount of knowledge and expertise of working within our sector and I am sure he will have a great deal to contribute to the continued success of our award winning company.”
In his spare time Zac enjoys watching rugby and is a keen Northampton Saints supporter (we won’t hold that against him!) He also enjoys renovating garden machinery and DIY.

PMG Wins Bristol Environmental Business of the Year Award
It’s official! We are the most environmental business in Bristol.
Managing Directors Patrick and Bernadette McGuinness, Workshop Manager Paul McGuiness, Operations Manager Stuart Knight and Accounts Supervisor Louise Gay all went to the Bristol Business Awards Dinner on Wednesday night.
We entered our state of the art recycling facility for the award which treats road sweeper residues and gully waste and despite stiff competition were delighted to hear our company’s name announced as the winner.
Judges were impressed by the fact that in 2015 PMG was instrumental in keeping 12,500 tons of road sweeping waste out of landfill and will be recycling and diverting from landfill a further 18,000 tons in 2016. The process separates the waste out into sand, graded aggregate and organic/plant waste and litter which is all then re-cycled enabling us to achieve ‘zero waste to landfill’.
It was a great night and we couldn’t be more proud of our achievement.
We have a brilliant team here at PMG and we’re looking forward to winning many more awards in the future.
