Christmas has come early at PMG.
We have just taken delivery of 3 Brand new Johnston VT651's.
These new machines are all on 15 tonne chassis, one being a DAF and two on the new VOLVO. The VOLVO's are a new adventure for PMG and the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty offering was a key point in our decision to purchase from VOLVO. The DAF is a tried and tested machine within our fleet of 35 sweepers and the new additions strengthen our very busy fleet. PMG are pleased with the new machines and our compliments go to Johnston again for providing a quality product on new chassis.

'New Addition to Our Tanker Fleet'
We have just invested in a new tanker to expanded our existing fleet of Vacuum/Jetting tankers.
Our New addition is a HUWER Recycling, Deep
Suction, Jetting tanker. This vehicle is able to jet and clean for longer
without the need to stop and fill up with water. The tanker filters and reuses
the water that it sucks up and recycles it through the jetting pump thus
enabling the unit to work for longer periods. The tanker also has a liquid ring
vacuum that enables it to carryout deep suction work in wells and sewers. See
specification below:
·
Liquid ring
suction capability to depths of 100 metres.
·
Horizontal
suction pull up to 1000 metres.
·
Hydraulic
boom arm for deep lifting work.
·
Moveable
centre plate to allow variable capacity for jet cleaning water and drawn waste.
·
150mm
diameter inlet and outlet valves.
·
Tipping tank
to ease the disposal of solids.
·
Up to 120
gallons per minute at 3000 psi jetting capacity.
·
Recycling
dirty water to use as jetting water when cleaning tanks, drains and sewers.
·
200 metres
of 37 mm diameter jetting hose.
·
40 metres of
100 mm diameter suction pipe.
·
Operated by
2 LGV drivers, Water Jetting Association certified and trained.
This vehicle has been nicknamed 'The Beast' due to its monster suction & jetting capabilities.

Zero waste to landfill from the PMG Services’ recycling facility
Hang on to your hats, fellow sustainability fanatics – we can now proudly boast that none of the road sweeping and gully ‘wastes’ which we collect on a daily basis are going to landfill.
Yes, that’s zero waste to landfill, largely thanks to our recently passing the quality protocol (see my blog last month dated 15th April). We recycle or reuse the entire content, by separating sand, gravel and stones and sending them off to be reused for road surfacing and construction or, in the case of high-grade organic materials, compost or remediation. We also separate any litter which we send for reprocessing, much of which is used to make refuse-derived fuels. We even send the water content off to treatment works to be recycled.

Road sweepings are no longer a waste: as our Quality Protocol for the Production of Aggregates gains approval
We’re thrilled to report the Environment Agency has approved our ‘quality protocol’ for the production of aggregates from our road sweepings/gully waste recycling plant. This means all the waste materials we pick up by our own fleet and process can be reused rather than sent to landfill as we ensure they lose the criteria which class them as ‘waste’.
This is such a win-win-win situation for everyone. To name but three benefits, materials are put to good use instead of being landfilled; they’re cheaper for onward users to buy than ‘virgin’ aggregates; and it helps our clients to meet their sustainability targets.

Jetting drains and sewers: further qualifications
Another week and another important accreditation for PMG Services staff.
Two of our specialist jetting operatives, Shaun McGinn and Steve Parsons, have successfully completed the Water Jetting Association’s Safety Awareness course and its Drain and Sewer Jetting course, accredited by City & Guilds. They each attended practical instruction including bespoke, hands-on training on the safe and effective use of equipment together with theoretical training in a lecture room environment. They also had refresher training on safe entry to, and exit from, confined spaces.

Hot on health and safety: now it’s official
Since joining the company in July last year I’ve been beavering away compiling the seemingly endless volumes of paperwork required to gain accreditation from Safecontractor for our excellence in health and safety.
It’s been a long old haul for something we already knew we were doing right, but now it seems worth all the effort as today we received confirmation that we’ve passed the exacting Safecontractor criteria for our capabilities and standards. Another certificate for the files!
The auditors examined how we avoid and manage risks, how well we train our drivers, operatives and other staff and they crawled over our paper trails to ensure every ‘i’ is dotted and every ‘t’ is crossed.

Swept away … we’ve expanded overnight!
Yesterday morning we had a fleet of 30 vehicles, including four specialist sweepers; by the evening we had welcomed a further five sweepers into our happy family.
It all started when we were approached some months ago by the owners of Roadmasters, a company offering road sweeping and cleaning services. Based at Signal Way in Swindon, Roadmasters was up for sale, allowing its ‘big sister’ company, Rockstone Surfacing, to concentrate on its core business.
